Safety guides how SPE plans projects, qualifies crews, conducts job briefings, coordinates equipment, responds to changing conditions, and completes work in the field.
From scheduled construction and maintenance to emergency restoration, our goal remains the same: protect our people, our partners, and the communities where we work.
The program
How safety is managed on every job.
Safety leadership and accountability
Safety expectations are set by leadership and carried by the people running the job. Field supervision owns the safety of the crew on site, and is accountable for how the work is planned and performed.
Pre-job planning and job briefings
Scope, site conditions, access, equipment, and hazards are worked through before mobilization. Crews brief the job before it starts and re-brief whenever the scope or conditions change.
Stop-work authority
Anyone on an SPE crew can stop the work. When conditions change — weather, system status, unexpected site conditions — the expectation is to pause, reassess, and re-plan before continuing.
Training and crew qualification
SPE staffs jobs with credentialed IBEW journeyman lineworkers, apprentices, equipment operators, and support personnel. Training and workforce development are led by Alpha Omega Safety Solutions, a SPE Group company.
Equipment inspection
Trucks, aerial devices, cranes, rigging, and protective equipment are inspected on a defined cycle and before use. Equipment is matched to the requirements of the specific scope.
Incident prevention and reporting
Near-misses and hazards are reported and reviewed, not buried. The purpose of reporting is to correct conditions before they produce an incident.

Training partner
Alpha Omega’s role in training.
Alpha Omega Safety Solutions, a SPE Group company, leads workforce development and safety training for utilities, municipalities, companies, and future utility professionals.
Programs span utility technician and lineworker education, CDL training, OSHA and MIOSHA-focused instruction, crew development, and customized training — delivered in partnership with Jackson College and Lansing Community College.
Credentialing
Union, by design.
SPE is a union contractor affiliated with the IBEW — the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. For utilities and municipalities, that means credentialed crews, consistent training standards, and disciplined coordination on site.
