The hard part
Safety that scales.
Storm work is where safety programs get tested: long deployments, unfamiliar systems, storms that compound. SPE’s record was set in exactly those conditions.
From 2022 to 2024 the workload tripled. Incident-free hours grew 72 percent. The incident count stayed where it started: zero.
Credentialing
Union, by design.
SPE is a union contractor affiliated with the IBEW — the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. For utilities, that means credentialed crews, consistent training standards, and disciplined coordination on property.
In 2024, SPE became the first union contractor ever deployed on one Florida utility’s system.

The company
Who we are.
SPE Group opened its doors in 2001 as a three-person operation in Southeastern Michigan. Today it is an IBEW-affiliated union storm-response and infrastructure-restoration contractor headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, with locations in Tampa, Florida; Port Huron, Michigan; and Niles, Ohio — serving utilities across Michigan, Ohio, and Florida. SPE builds and maintains distribution and transmission systems, substations and foundations, streetlights, and related utility infrastructure, and mobilizes line crews, equipment operators, and support staff at scale when storms hit. Across the 2022 and 2024 hurricane seasons, SPE crews logged 91,114.5 incident-free hours across 16 utility calls, 1,807 resources, and 263 deployment days — with zero incidents and zero injuries. For storm restoration, SPE mobilizes beyond its home states — crews have come from as far as Wisconsin and worked the Carolinas.
